Our human body unit is progressing well. We have had a fantastic talk by a visiting expert about the brain and the nervous system and we are looking forward to a physiotherapist coming in to talk about the spine.
Did you know that the brain cannot feel pain? This was one of the many amazing things we learned.
The students are almost ready to start the summative assessment task which you can see below. We have given them the outline of the task already so that they can begin to think of questions and follow the areas in which they are particularly interested.
Unit of Inquiry: Human Body Project Assignment
For this project you and your partners will design and carry out an experiment OR construct a model that will demonstrate your understanding of the central idea of this unit:
Though we may look very different on the outside, all human beings share the same physiology.
You will need to present your experiment or model during our Open House. You must include a written report which includes the following:
• A title in the form of a question (eg. What happens in your body when you eat an apple? )
• A summary of what you are demonstrating
• A description of which systems are involved in your experiment/ demonstration
• A description of how this would be the same or different for different people
• A labelled diagram to help explain about your model / experiment
PE Kit Reminder
Please help us to reduce the amount of lost property by clearly naming all PE kit. Please also ensure that the students are equipped for both indoor and outdoor PE on Tuesdays and Fridays.
Thank you.

The Human Body
Our new unit of inquiry is all about the human body.
The central idea is:
Though we may look very different on the outside, human beings share the same physiology.
The students will be inquiring into:
the systems and organs of the human body and
the factors that determine our physical similarities and differences.
We do have one guest speaker already organised for the students who will come to talk about the brain and the nervous system. If you know of anyone or of any trips which may be useful for the students during this unit please let us know.
